Burned house
My house burnt in February and I hired a fire restoration company to rebuild it. The insurance company wouldn't pay to tear it down so the frame was left standing. All the rebuilding is complete and I have been living here for a month and I can still smell the charred wood. I don't think the contractor replaced the frame around the window that blew out and I think that may be where the smell is coming from. They told me that I would not be able to smell the charred wood, but now that I can they don't want to fix it. Should I make them tear the window out and replace the frame or will the smell go away with time?

Re: Burned house
mbeth, you did not have a good contractor nor did you have a good insurance adjuster. you should not have burned smell. and it will not just go away. The burned timber should have been removed or treated with a painted on substance.
